I do not have a typewriter nor a record player and I love sending hand written notes to family, friends, and business associates. I have found many younger people can't read cursive writing. Another passe time consumer quickly becoming a lost "art" I suppose. Posting, blogging, texting is okay and necessary in our new instant economy. A well versed handwritten letter is a pleasure to send and receive.GALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03414966335332973634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-195247562743684574.post-20434720045781660412014-12-21T17:20:41.833-05:002014-12-21T17:20:41.833-05:00I don't know what you want I tried to figure i...I don't know what you want I tried to figure it out and couldn't you have made this not worth my time to post. I am just a regular everyday user and over the last year I am finally disgusted with their arrogant assumption that they know what I want to see and limit my possibilities accordingly. I am tired of trying to find the 4 inches of web sites they allow me in between their commercial ads per page and when I go to other pages it quickly dissolves into completely irrelevant subjects. It feels creepily invasive and like someone is watching me in my home when I get ads covering a third of my screen advertising single items I researched the day before online and I feel bullied when I cannot get rid of the ad without agreeing to sign up with them. If there is a way to contact Google or get help with the problems I am having I cannot find it. Apparently interacting with their users is beneath them and irrelevant. I have other issues that I did not have a year or two ago. It seems to me that Google has quickly crossed from a useful tool for all their users to a corporate entity that is not useful to their users and could not care less. Posing for photo ops and flying in dutifully for an event can't obfuscate their actions. That does not mean the administration is un-American or any such nonsense as that. However, during my lifetime I have never seen an administration seem appear to forced and unnatural in their relationships with the armed forces. With that NASCAR crowd that also could have been behind some of the jeers and boos. In that aspect, I don't feel tasteless is the correct term. You reap what you sow. None of this, of course detracts from the points you were making towards Rush. And in that case of course I'm not saying that I don't believe you about the goal of your treatment; but I don't think resignation to abnormality is universal among people who struggle with mental illness. Even if people do discount the idea of becoming "normal," I'm sure that many of them at least aspire to become "more normal." Lest we get bogged down in semantics, I think we can agree that normality itself might be characterized as a state of being relatively stable and free of harmful impulses.

I agree with you about the distinction between your disorder and the mental states of people with divergent baselines. I agree with you, but I can just about guarantee that given some time I could find psychologists that don't. A major point of my post was that the dividing line between "normal" and "afflicted" is often arbitrary, and that to a certain extent it has to be.

I hope you understand that my post was mostly about the danger of over-diagnosis, and that I did use that term. As such, the idea of trying to become normal applies more to people whose mental states already fall far closer to that designation than your accurately-diagnosed ones.Edward Carneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15705855929151669621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-195247562743684574.post-48426244700016931192012-04-10T23:14:13.374-04:002012-04-10T23:14:13.374-04:00Maybe you might find it interesting to know that, ...Maybe you might find it interesting to know that, as someone with an accurate diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, I am very much resigned to the reality that I will never know "normal." And, that is not the goal of my treatment. The hope is to prevent a premature death, attain some level of stability, and not to harm anyone in any way. From my vantage point, you seem not to be writing about mental illness, not about any serious psychiatric condition. I feel like I just read about the variations and fluctuations of any given person's base line. Normal for you may be more melancholy and contemplative than someone who tends to be, just as an example, vivacious and impulsive. Neither rise to the level of being a psychiatric disorder. Diseases such as Bipolar Disorder are quite debilitating and dangerous. Treatment is not about becoming normal, as you put it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-195247562743684574.post-79864340528260853812012-02-22T12:35:41.338-05:002012-02-22T12:35:41.338-05:00Linked to this from Jack Marshall's blog. Don't usually follow things out this far (and I don't comment to him anymore because I am still 52 blogs behind & have sworn to catch up before rejoining the responders) ... but you have just explained to me something that has puzzled me since I went to spend most of the 70s in Japan. It has to do precisely with deontology, namely, with the duties and responsibilities the Japanese is considered to be born with (whatever lesser ones he may acquire in life). Which, of course, adds a cross-cultural component to the ethical argument. Also, because I've worked for 15 years with a (non-suicide) crisis line that comes under the umbrella of SF Suicide Prevention, I thank you for adding to my argument that their ethics are dangerously oversimplified: one does not fit all. Personally, at 72, with no dependants and AIDS-devastated relationships, failing health, growing discomfort, poverty, and lack of valid cause to "occupy" my mind, I may have to scrape together the fare to Mexico. On second though, Afghanistan might be a better idea.pennnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-195247562743684574.post-36085292356067985472012-02-18T06:24:11.989-05:002012-02-18T06:24:11.989-05:00Good profile! When a de...How to reverse boycott debt collectors.

When a debt collector/debt collection/debt buyer company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.

Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.

Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.

Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.

One person who does this likes to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer, "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.

Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the mass auto-dialer business model becomes unprofitable. Don't aid and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.

Press 2 for Spanish.

There are certainly enough victims to take down debt collectors so ignoring/blocking seems downright Orwellian. Really? We're just going to passively submit and go with a block list or however we manage ignoring an endless stream of unwanted phone calls day after day? No! Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.RBDCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-195247562743684574.post-15671263385100844242011-12-07T00:48:49.841-05:002011-12-07T00:48:49.841-05:00I knew Andrew, and this is exactly what I've b...I knew Andrew, and this is exactly what I've been thinking since hearing the news.
